BEEP! BONK! HONNNNNK! Sound
by davfry on Aug.25, 2010, under Blog
As I finish my short film(Phos Lux) I know this idea of sound is very important. “Back to the Future” is a great example of great music and sound effects. It’s one of my favorite movies. The story is solid but the first thing that always comes to mind is the theme song. Just think about it… you are humming the song right now. I think on the 3 disk dvd set there is a behind the scenes with Robert Zemeckis and he said he told the composer to come up with amazing music and he let the composer have at it. Think about the song “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & the News, when I hear it I think “Back to the Future” all the time. I think the music and sound effects are some of the more important things in a movie. So as I continue to make films I want to have awesome sound tracks go with them!
Oh and for your listening pleasure!
Just listening to this brings a smile to my face!

It’s always amazing to see the world around us, but when you slow it down a whole new reality is open up. Slow-mo footage never gets old. I love to see the un seen when it’s shot at 500-10,000 fps. Simply awe inspiring.

Underground: The Lonely Forest part 3 from David Fry on Vimeo.
This is an Underground show Howard Shack and I created. Howard and I produced shot and edited it. We made it for CW11. We could not have pulled this off with out the tireless efforts of London Bridge Studio, the vocal styles from Monti Carlo and the lady who plays the puppet master Lynn Resnick. Also to The Lonely Forest, thanks guys!
Credits:
Producer: Howard Shack and David Fry
Editor: David Fry and Howard Shack
Camera: Howard Shack, David Fry, Roy Maine,
PA: Andrea Davis-Gonzalez
All the Music was preformed live in the studio. We did a few takes and used the best one for the show. The performances are The Lonely Forest raw!

This spot is for an ad campaign that I am working on for the Art Institute of Seattle. It’s called Seattle’s Next Superhero. This is the third spot I created. (Vote) I was going for the 1950′s sci-fi/horror movie poster look. I designed and animated everything.

What motivates us in our jobs:
by davfry on Aug.12, 2010, under Blog
I want to work for a company that stops riding me like a horse with a carrot in front of me to motivate me, and I to want work for a company that understands Autonomy, Purpose, and that Mastery can motivate better. I have been pondering this idea for a long time and try very hard to get into a company that works this way. (google) I asked my self this question. “I am selling my self for 8 hours a day 5 days a week, for what?” I would love to work for a company wich has realized that money can only motivate so far, but understands if they pay people enough it takes money off of the table as a motivator and they will receive better results. If I know a company will bend over backwards for me, then I will give my blood sweat and tears for them. Why don’t more companies understand this concept. I want to care about the work I do and I want it to have purpose. I have so many ideas that fall on deaf ears or people who only care about the status quo. They never want to shake things us, over even fail. I was told the inventions of sticky notes was an accident and the guy who created it was told by 3m that he could work on a project he want to work on. Sticky notes are an main stay to all business now. All because of an accident and a company that understood this concept! I want to run my production company this way I believe Pixar and Google understand this concept and I wish more companies would!
